Baseball Drops Road Midweek Contest

The No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team had its nine-game winning streak end with a 12-8 setback at Brewton-Parker Christian University on Tuesday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Ga.

The Barons (11-21) scored five runs in the seventh inning to pull away from the Grizzlies (27-3). Michael Son hit a grand slam to give the hosts a 12-6 lead that withstood a late-inning rally.

Son's blast came after GGC had trimmed a mid-inning deficit to 7-6 on a pinch-hit three-run homer by junior Dalton Miller in the top of the sixth inning.

The Grizzlies' ninth-inning rally started with junior left fielder Trey Smith hitting an RBI double before junior designated hitter Lance Bratlien added a sacrifice bunt to bring the visitors within four runs. The team then had the potential game-tying run on deck after a fielding error and a double from junior first baseman Jackson Legg. However, Jacoby Cox got a strikeout to secure the triumph.

Bratlien hit his third homer in the last four games to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning.
Gann swing
Brewton-Parker Christian regained the advantage in the bottom half of the frame following one of GGC's three defensive errors. Anthony Savarese was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then a two-run single by Zach Carlton gave the Barons a 7-3 lead.

Junior third baseman JJ Garcia joined Legg and Smith in recording two hits apiece to pace the team's 10-hit offensive attack.
