Kat Ihlenburg Achieves 500-Win Softball Coaching Milestone in NFCA Leadoff Classic Finale

Georgia Gwinnett College Head Softball Coach Kat Ihlenburg collected her 500th career coaching victory as the Grizzlies concluded the National Fastpitch Coaches Association with a 6-4 victory against Freed-Hardeman University (Tennessee) on Sunday in Columbus, Ga.

The Grizzlies (8-10) went 1-4 during the weekend road trip.

Ihlenburg, the lone coach in GGC's 14-year program history, has collected all of her career victories while leading the Grizzlies. She has guided the team to five NAIA World Series appearances, including two semifinal finishes.

On Sunday, the team overcame a 4-1 deficit by scoring four runs in the top of the second inning and plating an insurance run during the third inning.

Senior Sara Roussel hit a go-ahead two-run single to left field in the second inning.

Senior Savannah Jenkins opened the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. She later pushed across another run following a throwing error by the pitcher for Freed-Hardeman (3-4) one inning later.

Sophomore Casey Beaver hit an RBI ground out to second base to bring home freshman Chloe Rockhold to give GGC a 6-4 lead in the top of the third inning.

Freshman Tatum Helsom scattered six hits across six scoreless innings in relief to pick up the victory, improving her record to 2-3 on the season. She recorded five strikeouts on Sunday.
Beaver, Jenkins and Roussel each collected two hits in the victory.
