Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Makes 16 3-Pointers in Road Triumph

The Georgia Gwinnett College men's basketball team showed no signs of fatigue, playing its third game in four days, in picking up a 102-70 victory at Milligan University on Monday evening in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

The Grizzlies (19-6) topped the 100-point barrier for the second straight game and seventh time this season. The team also had one of their best defensive performances of the season.

GGC relied on a balanced scoring attack, with six players reaching double figures, as it concluded a hectic stretch in the schedule that featured home victories last Friday and Saturday at the Continental Athletic Conference Classic.

The team made its first eight shots Monday to jump out to a 25-21 advantage after the first seven minutes of the contest.

Then, the visitors held Milligan (6-16) without a field goal for nearly eight minutes to build a double-digit lead. Senior Drew Kramer paced the early offensive attack by scoring 14 first-half points. He went 4-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc as the Grizzlies connected on 16 3-pointers throughout the contest.

Teichmann coaching actionJunior Jahiem Berry scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half and surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his collegiate career on a 3-point field goal late in the first half.

GGC led 49-35 after the opening 20 minutes and pushed its advantage to a 20-point margin, at 78-58, following a 3-pointer from senior Manny Montgomery with 9:35 remaining in the game.

Kramer led the team with 16 points, while Berry added 14 points and Montgomery came off the bench to score 13 points. Senior Deonte' Martinez scored 14 points and junior Devontre Chaney had 12 points. Freshman Amari Morgan chipped in 11 points off the bench, while classmate Mario Hill Jr. had eight assists.

GGC has won five straight games and concluded the road portion of its regular season schedule with a 7-0 mark in opposing gyms.

Coach's Corner
"We got good shots and moved the ball very well. We had every excuse today, by playing our third game in four days, traveling early this morning and not having a shootaround. However, we did the opposite because we had great energy. Our defense got aggressive and started to impose its will, with our athleticism," said Head Coach Chase Teichmann.

Turning Point
In a game that featured more than 100 points being scored, the Grizzlies' defense held Milligan without a field goal for nearly eight minutes in the later stages of the first half. GGC led 25-21 seven minutes into the contest. Then, the defense turned up the intensity as the visitors' offense went on a 15-4 run to build a double-digit lead that it would maintain for the remainder of the contest.
