Men’s Basketball Top Seed for CAC Championship, Starting Thursday

The Grizzlies play their first postseason game in program history on Thursday, February 26 as the top seed in the tournament
The top-seeded Georgia Gwinnett College men's basketball team begins play in the 2026 Continental Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship with a quarterfinal contest against No. 8 seed Alice Lloyd College (Kentucky) on Thursday, February 26, in the Convocation Center, starting at 5 p.m.

GGC is hosting the tournament for the first time in the inaugural season for the college's men's basketball program.

The tournament schedule is:

Quarterfinal Games Day 1 – Thursday, February 26
  • No. 2 seed Arkansas Baptist College vs. No. 7 seed Carolina University (North Carolina), 1 p.m.
  • No. 1 seed Georgia Gwinnett College vs. No. 8 seed Alice Lloyd College (Kentucky), 5 p.m.
Quarterfinal Games Day 2 – Friday, February 27
  • No. 3 seed Washington Adventist University (Maryland) vs. No. 6 seed Florida College, 1 p.m.
  • No. 4 seed Morris College (South Carolina) vs. No. 5 seed Fisher College (Massachusetts), 3 p.m.
Semifinal Games – Saturday, February 28
  • Semifinal 1, TBA
  • Semifinal 2, TBA
Championship Game – Sunday, March 1
  • Semifinal round winners play for the title, 4 p.m.
The Grizzlies (23-5) enter the postseason on an eight-game winning streak.

Senior Manny Montgomery is the reigning CAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week. The guard recorded two steals in each of GGC's three games last week. On the season, he is averaging 9.3 points per contest and has had 28 assists and 20 steals. He has made 52.8 percent of his field goals.

Junior Devontre Chaney tops the squad at 15.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest. He also has had 42 steals and 113 assists.

Senior Drew Kramer is averaging 13.5 points per game and has made 41.3 percent of his 3-point field goals. Junior Jahiem Berry follows closely behind at 13.4 points per outing and leads the Grizzlies with 97 3-pointers and 44.7 percent field goal shooting.

Senior Deonte' Martinez has contributed 87 assists and freshman Patrick Johnson is averaging 8.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per outing.

Alice Lloyd (11-16) is making its CAC postseason debut. The Eagles top the conference in three-pointers made (10.6 per game) and are second for 3-point shooting (36.5 percent). The team averages 84.3 points per outing. Evin Eversole leads the team by scoring 16.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Koji Anderson is scoring at a 15.9-point clip and Landon Napier is shooting 39.4 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

MEET THE COACHES 
Georgia Gwinnett: Chase Teichmann is the program's initial coach after a successful four-year stint at Florida College. He has a 23-5 record at the helm of the Grizzlies. Overall, he has compiled a 123-32 record in five seasons as a collegiate head coach. Teichmann guided Florida College to two Continental Athletic Conference titles and led three teams to the second round of the NAIA national tournament. 
Alice Lloyd: Scott Cornett is in his fifth season leading the Eagles, compiling an 89-63 record. He has led the program to postseason play in each season, including a pair of semifinal finishes in the River States Conference tournament.
 
WHAT'S AT STAKE
The winner of Thursday's quarterfinal contest will advance to the semifinal round on Saturday, February 28, to face the winner of a quarterfinal game between No. 4 seed Morris College (South Carolina) and No. 5 seed Fisher College (Massachusetts), taking place on Friday, February 27, at 3 p.m.

Senior Manny Montgomery closed out the 2025-26 regular season by earning the Continental Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week award. He recorded two steals in each of the team's three games last week.
 
FINISHING STRONG
The Grizzlies enter their inaugural postseason event on an eight-game winning streak. The last two triumphs have come by an average of 39.5 points per game, defeating Reinhardt University (Georgia) 102-60 last Wednesday and Carolina University (North Carolina) 94-57 in last Thursday's regular-season finale.
