The Georgia Gwinnett College women's basketball once again used a strong third quarter to pick up a victory, defeating Bluefield University 66-44 to close out the regular season Wednesday evening in Bluefield, Virginia.
The Grizzlies (19-6) scored the first seven points of the second half to build a double-digit lead at 38-26 near the midway point of the third quarter. The team outscored the Rams (3-24) by a 15-7 margin in the pivotal third quarter and 35-18 in the second half.
Freshman
Christen Collins led the charge with a game-high 24 points. Sophomore
Jamya Griffin scored 19 points and collected four steals.
The visitors went 22-of-26 (84.6 percent) from the free throw line and outscored Bluefield by 13 points at the charity stripe.

GGC scored the final 10 points of the first half over the course of last 2:36 of the period. Collins connected on a 3-pointer and a three-point play to give the team a 27-26 lead at the 1:53 mark. A pair of free throws by Collins continued the offensive spurt. Sophomore
Jamya Griffin converted a steal into a fastbreak layup to give GGC a 31-26 halftime lead.
Collins scored 10 points in the second quarter.
Later, freshman
Hope Taylor made a layup with 2:29 remaining in the decisive third quarter to give the Grizzlies a 42-30 lead. Two free throws from junior
Peyton Hearvey pushed the margin to 13 points, at 46-33, entering the final 10 minutes.
Hearvey contributed nine points and eight rebounds in the game, while junior
Nylaa Fuller grabbed nine rebounds.

"We got off to a slow against a very scrappy team that fought hard to the end. Jamya (Griffin) and Christen (Collins) really played well and we came out in the third quarter playing our style of basketball. We're excited to get ready for the conference tournament," said Head Coach

GGC scored 17 consecutive points across the second and third quarters to win its regular-season finale. Freshman
Christen Collins scored 10 points during the second quarter and finished with a game-high 24 points. Sophomore
Jamya Griffin helped turn four steals into 19 points. The Grizzlies outscored Bluefield 22-9 at the free throw line in the contest.
