A Georgia Gwinnett College men's basketball player has been awarded the Continental Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for the second straight week of the young 2026-27 season.
This time the honor has gone to sophomore
Marc Chavenet after he put on a defensive master class in the second half as the No. 18-ranked Grizzlies rallied from a 13-point deficit against Reinhardt University (Georgia) last Wednesday.
The Snellville, Georgia, native started the rally by blocking an opposing 3-point field goal attempt and eventually tracking down the loose ball and making a dunk – his only two points of the game.
Chavenet then had three steals over the next six minutes that led to points in transition, further contributing to the dramatic home court comeback. He also grabbed four defensive rebounds as the Grizzlies eventually won by 10 points.
Georgia Gwinnett College (3-0) is scheduled to close out the season-opening home stand with a game against Montreat College (North Carolina) on Tuesday, November 3, in the Convocation Center, starting at 7 p.m. Then, the Grizzlies compete in the Dalton Classic with contests on Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, in Dalton, Georgia.
