Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Wins Home Opener 3-0, Improves to 3-0 on Season

Freshman Ousmane Fall scored a pair of first-half goals as the Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer picked up a commanding 3-0 victory over Lawrence Tech (Michigan) in the team's home opener Thursday on White Out Night at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

All three of the Grizzlies' goals were scored during the first half as the team opened this weekend's Labor Day Grizzly Classic.

Fall dribbled around sprawling Lawrence Tech goalkeeper Daniel Manolache in a one-on-one situation to net the first goal of the match in the 19th minute. Freshman Luka Colic delivered a crisp pass to a streaking Fall at the top of the box to set up the scoring chance.

The Grizzlies (3-0-0) scored twice in a 28-second span during the later stages of the first half.

Fall netted his second goal of the match in the 36th minute after receiving a pass from sophomore Pedro Nunes. Then, sophomore Alejandro Contrera scored his third tally of the fall campaign.

"Tonight's goals came in the run of play. You like to see your strikers (Ousame and Alejandro) scoring goals. It makes life a lot easier," said Head Coach Steve DeCou.

GGC controlled the match's statistics, outshooting Lawrence Tech (0-2-0) by a 17-2 margin, with eight shots being on goal. The hosts struck the opposing goal post twice during the second half. Fall nearly completed a hat trick in the 65th minute when his left-footed shot hit the right post. Colic connected with the left post on a shot attempt in the 77th minute.

Contrera paced the team's balanced offensive attack with five shots, while Fall placed three of his four shot attempts on goal. Sophomore Nic Peranitsch had two shots as nine different players registered a shot attempt in the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Victor Darub posted his second shutout of the season, stopping the lone shot by the Blue Devils on goal.

Georgia Gwinnett College's Office of Athletics hosted the White Out Night, with the first 100 GGC students in attendance receiving a free t-shirt.

Coach's Corner
"Got a lot of good threes there with three goals improving us to 3-0 for the season. We were very good defensively in the second half by being better organized. After going up 3-0 at the half the guys turned in a very professional performance by allowing just two shots on our goal," said Head Coach Steve DeCou.
