Jarvis Reaches 1,000th Strikeout Milestone in Softball Sweep

Georgia Gwinnett College senior pitcher Annalise Jarvis became the seventh player in NAIA history to strike out 1,000 batters in a career after having 16 strikeouts while earning a victory and a save in Saturday's doubleheader sweep against Spartanburg Methodist College (South Carolina) at the Grizzly Softball Complex.

GGC (22-5) picked up a 3-1 victory followed by an 11-0 five-inning triumph against the fellow Continental Athletic Conference opponent – the sixth straight victory for the No. 8-ranked team.

Jarvis came out of the bullpen to start the fifth inning of the opener, striking out eight of the nine batters she faced in protecting a two-run advantage.

Then, the right hander from Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, started the nightcap and got the milestone strikeout against MK Parnell for the first out of the fifth inning. Jarvis tossed a two-hit shutout in the game and finished with eight strikeouts to now have 1,001 strikeouts during her illustrious career. She improved her record to 12-1 for this season, with a 0.46 earned run average.

"I could never have dreamed of being on a better team to achieve this feat. Emotions were really high today. I've hit a lot of numbers in my career, but this one is different because it has been achieved by such a small group of people. I wanted to share this achievement with our home fans," said Jarvis.

This marked another milestone for the program witnessed by Head Coach Kat Ihlenburg, the only coach in the Grizzlies' 13-year history. Other achievements include the first conference championship title in 2015, first trip to the NAIA World Series in 2018, and the first perfect game in program history in 2022.
Jarvis side pitching
"This was an incredible milestone because of Annalise's model of consistency and determination since she arrived in 2023," said Ihlenburg.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opener after pushing across two runs in the first inning. Senior Jane Hoover brought home junior Sara Roussel with a ground ball to shortstop. A throwing error on the play allowed from freshman Casey Beaver to touch home plate.

GGC plated an insurance run, at 3-1, in the bottom of the fourth inning when sophomore Morgan McQuagge scored from second base following a wild pitch.

Freshman pitcher Isabelle Teems picked up the victory, scattering three hits across four innings to improve her record to 4-0 for the season. Jarvis recorded her third save in 2025 with three perfect innings in relief.

The early offensive momentum carried over into the second game as the Grizzlies plated three runs in the first inning.

Hoover hit an RBI single through the right side of the infield. McQuagge added a safety squeeze bunt to score sophomore Sophie Sisk before senior Makenna Talcott hit a run-scoring single to center field to give the team a 3-0 lead.

The team broke the game open by scoring five runs in the third inning. Junior Sara Roussel collected an RBI single to center field. Sisk brought home a pair of runs with a triple before scoring herself on an RBI double from junior Savannah Jenkins.

One inning later, junior Summer Hickson brought home Talcott with a run-scoring single up the middle to give the hosts a 9-0 lead. Freshman Taylor Cohron tallied an RBI single before freshman Kaitlyn Crumley scored following one of Pioneers (15-10) four errors in the contest.

Coach's Corner
"Our hitters are doing a really good job of understanding their roles, and when that's happening good things usually follow. We're staying aggressive in our process. We executed this weekend the things that we've been working on in practice and that resulted in four wins for us," said Head Coach Kat Ihlenburg.

Turning Point
After visiting Spartanburg Methodist got within a run, at 2-1, in the top of the fourth inning of the first game, GGC quickly responded in the home half to build a two-run advantage. Sophomore Morgan McQuagge scored from second base following a wild pitch. Senior Annalise Jarvis came out of the bullpen to strike out eight of the nine batters she faced in securing her third save of the season.
