The No. 3-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team scored 50 runs from 35 hits in sweeping a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Toccoa Falls College (Georgia), winning by 30-7 and 20-1 scores at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
The Grizzlies (15-2), winner of six straight games, scored 14 runs during the third inning of the opener. The team batted around the batting order twice during the productive inning.
GGC then opened the nightcap by pushing eight runs across home during the first inning.
In the day's opener, senior
Sam Seeker put the hosts ahead 4-1 with a leadoff home run in the second inning. Junior
Alex Harrell cleared the bases with a double later in the frame and senior
Kyle Norton hit a run-scoring single to plate the team's ninth run of the contest.
One inning later, senior
Paul Winland Jr. hit an infield RBI single to jumpstart another big inning. Run-scoring singles by juniors
Tyler M. Martin and
Grant Pohlman extended the lead to 16-2. Senior
Zayd Brannigan then added a pair of runs with another single to center field and Pohlman's two-run single up the middle capped the 14-run frame.
The offensive outburst continued with junior
Daniel Stephens hitting his first home run of the season in the fourth inning. Back-to-back doubles by junior
Joe Mrowiec and freshman
Jacob Bohacek added more runs to achieve the 30-run achievement on the scoreboard.
In the nightcap, GGC started with senior
Matthew Lee hitting a two-run single up the middle for a 5-1 advantage. Senior
Jon Ponder followed with an RBI single through the left side of the infield before classmate
Braxton Meguiar struck a run-scoring single to left field for the eighth run of the opening inning.
Harrell connected on a two-run home run over the left field fence as part of a four-run third inning. Run-scoring triples by Ponder and Meguiar gave the Grizzlies a commanding 17-1 lead.

Brannigan and Pohlman each tallied three hits in Saturday's opener. Bohacek added a 2-for-2 performance, with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Norton drove in four runs and scored three times as part of a 2-for-2 performance in the game.
Meguiar led the charge in the nightcap by going 4-for-4 at the plate, with three RBI and three runs scored. He also legged out a triple and a double to go along with two singles. Ponder scored four runs and drove in four other runs. Seeker went 3-for-4, with three RBI, in the series finale.
Senior starting pitcher
Brendan Moody scattered four hits and struck out 10 batters in tossing a complete game during Saturday's second contest. He improved to 3-0 on the season.

The Grizzlies used big offensive innings to sweep Saturday's doubleheader against Toccoa Falls. In the opener, the team batted around twice in scoring 14 runs during the third inning. That performance led to a season-high 30 runs scored. Then, GGC pushed eight runs across in the opening frame toward putting 20 runs on the scoreboard to complete the three-game series sweep.
