The Georgia Gwinnett College women's basketball team scored 13 of the game's final 17 points to pick up a 60-49 victory at Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday evening in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The game avenged the team's lone loss of the season and was the first road contest in program history.
Sophomore
Jamya Griffin began the late surge by converting a layup to give the visitors a 49-45 lead with 7:25 left. Later, freshman
Christal Collins hit a 10-foot floater from the left baseline to once again stretch the team's lead to four points, at 51-47, at the 5:26 mark.
Freshman
Christen Collins scored on a putback basket and followed with a three-point play to give GGC a 56-47 lead with 3:42 remaining.
The Grizzlies (5-1) opened the game by racing out to a big advantage, building an 18-7 lead after the opening quarter.
Spartanburg Methodist (4-1) turned the tables in the second quarter by holding the visitors scoreless over the final seven minutes to trail GGC 23-21 at halftime.
The team took advantage of being in the bonus personal foul situation for nearly six minutes of the third quarter, scoring 24 points during the 10-minute stanza.
Christen Collins scored a team-high 18 points and Griffin chipped in 13 points. Junior
Laila Williams added eight points off the bench.

"This is a great team win. We started strong and finished strong by holding them to seven points in the first quarter and then just four points in the fourth quarter. Laila (Williams) and Nylaa (Fuller) came off the bench and gave us quality minutes. We played a really solid second half to get our first road win in program history," said Head Coach

The Grizzlies turned up the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter, holding Spartanburg Methodist to just four points over the final 10 minutes. Freshman
Christen Collins had a steal and a three-point play on the ensuing possession to give the team a nine-point lead in the closing minutes.
