The Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer team dropped its first match of the 2024 season as No. 25-ranked Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky) found the back of the net in the final minutes for a 1-0 victory Thursday night in Columbia, Kentucky.
Felix Poschmann drilled a shot from the top of the 18-yard box in the 86th minute to lift the host Blue Raiders (1-2-2).
A stingy defense carried the Grizzlies (5-1-0) during the first 85 minutes of the match, allowing just three shots on goal. Likewise, Lindsey Wilson limited GGC to eight shots, with only one being on goal.
Freshman
Juan Hermenegildo led the visitors' offensive effort with three shot attempts. Classmate
Alejandro Contrera followed with two shots in the match.
Thursday marked the first time this season that the Grizzlies have been outshot in a match. Both teams had five shot attempts in a scoreless first half.
Georgia Gwinnett College will conclude its road trip by playing a neutral-site match against the University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, September 7, in Columbia, Kentucky, starting at 5 p.m.

"This was a heavyweight battle and a great learning opportunity for us. We went into a hostile road environment against a desperate, winless team. We did a lot of good things and we'll be better because of this experience. The difference in these games is converting on the limited chances that you have," said Head Coach
Steve DeCou.
Lindsey Wilson's Felix Poschmann drilled a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the GGC goal for the lone tally in Thursday's highly competitive match. Scoring chances were few and far between for both teams, with Lindsey Wilson having four shots on goals while the Grizzlies were limited to just one shot on the opposing goal.
