Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Nets 12 Goals in Season-Opening Win

Junior Natalie Maguire made quite a first impression with the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team, setting a program single-game record by assisting in five goals in a dominating 12-0 victory at Brewton-Parker (Georgia) in Tuesday night's season-opening match in Mount Vernon, Georgia.

Seven different players found the back of the net as the Grizzlies (1-0-0) outshot the Barons (0-1-0) by a decisive 41-0 margin in the victory.

Maguire assisted on the visitors' first four of the team's eight second-half goals. She broke Valeria De Santiago's previous record of four assists in a match against Bob Jones University (South Carolina) during the program's inaugural season in 2012.

Meanwhile, senior Aurora Miglio netted a hat trick – all coming over the course of the second half (48-, 52- and 60-minute mark), while junior Samara Dullabh scored a goal in each half and freshman Lim Soo Yeon came off the bench to register a pair of goals during the final 45 minutes of the match.

Westergren dribbleSenior Pernilla Westergren set the tone for GGC's strong second-half performance by scoring a goal 16 seconds into the period.

In the first half, senior Ola Orelesi scored and provided an assist to give the visitors an early 4-0 advantage. The 2023 third NAIA All-America team selection opened the scoring with her second career goal in the 19th minute of the match.

Less than a minute later, Dullabh gave the team a 2-0 advantage that had Maguire providing a crossing pass to the left side of the pitch.

The lead grew on the first career goal by sophomore Kayla Maguire in the 27th minute and when junior Grace Clark converted a corner kick into Davis' first goal in the 44th minute.

COACH'S CORNER
"It was a good start to the season. I'm pleased that we showed that we're unpredictable to defend against (having nine goals with an assist). We played hard and well for the entire 90 minutes. We really wanted the forwards to feel what it is like to score goals and see the ball go into the back of the net," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

TURNING POINT
The Grizzlies turned up the pressure on their opponent in the second half, tallying five goals in the opening 15 minutes of the period. Senior Aurora Miglio netted a hat trick and junior Natalie Maguire assisted on the first four goals of the period to give her a single-game program record with five assists.
