The No. 2-seeded Faulkner University (Alabama) baseball team scored three runs in consecutive innings before holding off a late-inning rally by No. 1-seed Georgia Gwinnett College to win Tuesday afternoon's winner's bracket contest 6-3 in the NAIA Opening Round Lawrenceville Bracket at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
The Grizzlies (48-7) had their 14-game winning streak snapped. The tournament hosts attempted to rally from a 6-1 deficit.

Braxton Meguiar hit a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning before scoring on a safety squeeze bunt by classmate
Henry Daniels.
A few innings later, GGC loaded the bases on Faulkner starting pitcher Mose Hayes after back-to-back singles from juniors
Jackson Cobb and
Paul Winland Jr. were followed by a walk to junior pitch hitter
Bryce Lesher.
Faulkner (38-17) turned to reliever Hunter Dupuy to get out of the jam with a strikeout and a flyout to secure the victory and his third save of the season. Hayes struck out nine batters and scattered eight hits across 8.1 innings to improve his record to 7-1 on the season.

GGC opened the scoring in the second inning on an RBI single from junior

However, the Eagles answered with three runs in the third and fourth innings. Johnny Lopez hit a go-ahead two-run double before scoring on Christian Webb's run-scoring single in the third frame.
Evan Gilliam executed a safety squeeze bunt to plate the team's second run of the fourth inning. Orlando Lorduy collected an RBI single to give the visitors a 6-1 lead.

The Grizzlies attempted a late-inning rally by scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning and loading the bases with one out in the ninth inning, while trailing by three runs, at 6-3. However, Faulkner relief pitcher Hunter Dupuy recorded a strikeout and a flyout to end the threat and seal the victory in the winner's bracket game.
