Jarvis Once Again Shines as Softball Splits with Cumberland

Junior pitcher Annalise Jarvis struck out 14 batters and allowed just one hit as the No. 4-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College softball team split a doubleheader against Cumberland University (Tennessee) on Saturday afternoon at the Grizzly Softball Complex.

The Grizzlies won the opener 4-0 behind Jarvis' fifth win of the season while Cumberland (6-2) rebounded with a 7-4 victory in the nightcap after tallying 10 hits – part of Office of Athletics' special Doug Court Appreciation Day festivities.

GGC (10-2) built a 3-0 lead through three innings in Saturday's first contest. Senior Logan Oller hit a run-scoring single up the middle in the second inning. Junior Jane Hoover added an RBI single one inning later to give the hosts the 3-0 advantage.

That was more than enough offense for Jarvis, the 2023 NAIA Pitcher of the Year, who improved to 5-0 inside the pitching circle this spring.

In the second game, Cumberland plated three runs in the top of the third inning and added four more runs during the sixth inning.Hoover hit

Sophomore Summer Hickson hit a sacrifice fly to bring home junior Angelica Gallegos with a run for GGC in the fourth inning. Hoover followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-2. Hoover went 2-for-2 at the plate in the contest.

Senior Kloey Goins went 4-for-7, with a run scored, and drove in one run during Saturday's action.

After Court was honored during the game, it was announced that the Assistant Athletics Director of Operations is the first inductee of the new GGC Athletics Hall of Fame. Court is celebrating 10 years of service after initially serving as a volunteer when intercollegiate athletics began for the college in the fall of 2012.

COACH'S CORNER
"It was a good day of softball against a quality opponent. This was a good measuring stick early in the season. They (Cumberland) are hitting the ball very well, which their stats show," said Head Coach Kat Ihlenburg.

TURNING POINT
