Women’s Soccer Concludes Season with NAIA Second-Round Loss

SCAD Savannah (Georgia) forward Abigail Siddall scored twice to lead the No. 9 national seeded Bees to a 4-1 victory against Georgia Gwinnett College in a NAIA Second Round women's soccer match on Saturday evening in Hardeeville, South Carolina.

The hosts built a 2-0 halftime advantage behind an own goal in the 10th minute and Siddall's first tally in the 42nd minute.

However, GGC (12-7-2) responded quickly in the second half as sophomore Gabriela Rosas found the back of the net 41 seconds into the period. The forward netted her second goal of the season.

The Grizzlies continued to build momentum as SCAD Savannah (17-1-2) was called for a foul inside the 18-yard box during the 60th minute. Senior Pernilla Westergren was unsuccessful on the penalty kick attempt that, if it had been successful, would have tied the match at 2-2.

The Bees reclaimed a two-goal lead, at 3-1, in the 70th minute as Siddall scored following a pass from Sydney Chura. Ida Akesson found the back of the net in the 80th minute to close out the team's scoring.

SCAD Savannah outshot the Grizzlies by a 24-4 margin, including a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Kurosawa kickJunior goalkeeper Ayano Kurosawa made 10 saves for the Grizzlies.

Rosas paced GGC's offensive attack by registering two shots and the team's lone goal.

Georgia Gwinnett College won its seventh Continental Athletic Conference title and advanced to the NAIA national tournament for the eighth consecutive season.

Coach's Corner
"I thought we showed so much heart after being outplayed in the first half (down 2-0 at halftime). To come back and get a goal was big, but missing the penalty kick changed the momentum of the match. Everything changed after that sequence. I could not be any prouder of our seniors. Ola is the best defender in program history and Pernilla played the best soccer of her career down the stretch for us. The seniors helped us accomplish so much," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Turning Point
The Grizzlies cut a 2-0 halftime deficit in half as sophomore Gabriela Rosas scored 41 seconds into the second half. Then, senior Pernilla Westergren was unsuccessful on a penalty-kick attempt in the 60th minute that, if successful, would have squared the match at 2-2. SCAD Savannah reclaimed a two-goal advantage on Abigail Siddall's second tally of the match, this one coming in the 70th minute.
