Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Scores Six Goals in Home Win

Five different Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer players found the back of the net in the Grizzlies' 6-0 victory Tuesday evening against Continental Athletic Conference opponent Florida College at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The Grizzlies (10-5-1) take a five-match winning streak into the final weekend of the regular season.

Junior Ryuji Kubota and freshman Aldo Campos each scored a goal and contributed an assist to lead the team's 20-shot offensive attack in Tuesday's match.

Freshman Alejandro Contrera opened the scoring in the 17th minute after receiving a through ball from junior Toufik Najem. Kubota deflected the pass at the top of the opposing 18-yard box toward Contrera, who converted the opportunity for his 10th goal of the season.

Kubota then found the back of the net himself following a failed clearance by the Falcons in the 31st minute, giving GGC a 2-0 lead.

Junior Ciro Damine netted his seventh goal of the 2024 season by finding the back of the goal during the 88-minute mark. Campos set up the scoring chance with a long throw in on the right side. The ball was then flicked into the net by junior Nadav Weizmann from inside the 18-yard box.

Campos scored his first collegiate goal in the closing seconds to round out Tuesday's balanced scoring attack.

Damine attempted a match-high five shots while Contrera and Hermenegildo each had three shots. Twelve different GGC players added a shot attempt in the home win.

Junior goalkeeper Dagoberto Romero, the reigning Continental Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, posted his second straight shutout. The GGC defense limited Florida College to one shot attempt across the 90 minutes of action.

Coach's Corner
"We were able to move the ball effectively and our finishing was very good tonight. I was most impressed with our movement and our runs off the ball. It was a total-team effort as the level of play remained the same throughout the entire match. We're playing good soccer right now," said Head Coach Steve DeCou.

Turning Point
The Grizzlies opened the scoring soon after freshman Evan Alvarez hit the post following a one-timer during the 16th minute. It took another 1:24 for freshman Alejandro Contrera to find the back of the net after a series of strong plays with the ball. Junior Toufik Najem played a through ball for classmate Ryuji Kubota, who deflected the ball in Contrera's direction to convert the scoring chance at the 17-minute mark.
