Twin Hat Tricks Spark Women’s Soccer Road Win

Seniors Kyara Armenta and Victoria Watson each contributed hat tricks as the No. 21-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team scored its most goals in a match since 2015 with a 10-0 victory at Freed-Hardeman University (Tennessee) on Saturday afternoon in Henderson, Tennessee.

The scoring outburst was the most for the Grizzlies (4-1-2) since they put nine goals on the scoreboard against Rochester Unievrsity (Michigan) on August 31, 2019. It tied for the second most goals scored in a match in program history, and marked the first time two GGC players have registered a hat trick in the same match since Florida College on October 30, 2021.

Armenta and Watson recorded the 16th and 17th hat trick in program history.

Armenta netted the visitors' first three goals, with an unassisted goal in the eighth minute, a penalty kick in the 21st minute, and a strike in the 32nd minute.

Watson's first goal came in the 33rd minute before finding the back of the net for consecutive goals in the 50th and 55th minutes, both assisted by sophomore Grace Clark.

Yasuzawa actionOther contributors were freshmen Cecilie Povlsen, who scored in the 36th and 41st minutes; freshman Riko Yasuzawa, who tallied a goal for the second straight match, this one coming after a pass from sophomore Saga Andersson in the 68th minute; and sophomore Kendra Davis, whose goal in the 80th minute closed out the 10-goal effort.

COACH'S CORNER
"We pressured well which led to a good, fast start – a positive step forward for us. Victoria (Watson) is playing with a self-confidence that I not yet seen from her," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

TURNING POINT
The Grizzlies wasted little time – eight minutes in fact – in scoring during Saturday's road match. The team then added three goals in a five-minute span to build a 6-0 halftime lead. Senior Kyara Armenta scored three of those first-half goals to complete a hat trick, while classmate Victoria Watson found the back of the net twice early in the second half as part of her hat trick.
