Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Orue’s Late Goal Leads Men’s Soccer to Road Victory

A pair of goals from freshman forward Joshua Orue, the last coming in the 85th minute of the match, led the No. 8-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory against Brescia University (Kentucky) on a neutral pitch Saturday morning at Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia.

Orue's late tally came two minutes after Brescia (0-2-0) squared the match, at 2-2, on an unassisted goal by Timothy Mendez.

The Grizzlies (2-0-1) once again dominated the statistics in the match, registering 27 shots, with 13 being on goal. The team also had 15 corner kicks.

GGC got on the scoreboard early for the third straight match. This time senior forward Emanuele Sordi scored his third goal for the season after finding the back of the net in the second minute of the match. The team scored in the third minute of Thursday night's match against Louisiana Christian University in a 1-1 draw in Dalton, Georgia, and in the first 10 minutes of a 2-1 season-opening home victory August 19 against Bryan College (Tennessee).

Brescia evened the contest in the 15th minute following a goal by Lance Dickens.

Sordi celebrationOrue's first goal on Saturday came during the 34th minute after receiving a pass from sophomore Sam Povolotsky. The tally was Orue's first collegiate goal.

Later, Orue buried a shot after a pass from Sordi to cap his strong offensive performance. It answered Brescia's Mendez match-tying goal in the 83rd minute.

GGC took 18 shots in the first half and added nine more shots during the second half.

Saturday's match was played with temperatures in the mid-90s.

COACH'S CORNER
"You'll take the win at this time of the season. There are still things we need to work on and improve upon. I can't remember a game being this hot. That meant that all of our available field players got minutes. Thankfully, we're a deeper team this year. Joshua had been doing good things in the first two games and continues to contribute. It's good to see a freshman score his first goals and gain confidence to score more goals," said Head Coach Steve DeCou.

TURNING POINT
Minutes after Brescia scored the match-tying goal, at 2-2, freshman Joshua Orue gave the Grizzlies their third and final lead of the contest by finding the back of the net in the 85th minute. The goal was the freshman's second of the match.
