Jeremy Sheetinger Adds Cape Cod League Team Manager Post, Beginning Summer 2024

Baseball Head Coach Jeremy Sheetinger has added responsibilities as manager of the Cape Code Summer Baseball League’s Chatham Anglers, starting in 2024
Georgia Gwinnett College Baseball Head Coach Jeremy Sheetinger has added responsibilities as manager of the Cape Code Summer Baseball League's Chatham Anglers, starting in 2024. The Chatham Anglers Association Board approved the hiring on Sunday, August 20.

Sheetinger will remain leader of the GGC baseball program, a perennial NAIA powerhouse with a 2021 national championship.

The Chatham Anglers compete in the 10-team Cape Cod League, the premiere wood bat summer league that features many of the nation's top collegiate players. The league annually produces numerous top draft picks in the annual Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Sheetinger web"Chatham is widely regarded as the premier organization inside the Cape Cod Baseball League, and to be entrusted with the responsibility to help keep this organization at the pinnacle of this league is an absolute dream come true. My heart is beyond full right now," said Sheetinger. "I want to express my deepest thanks and sincere gratitude to Steve West, Mike Geylin, Bob Sherman, and the Chatham Anglers Association Board for this amazing opportunity to lead the Anglers."

Chatham has won five Cape Cod League championships, 16 regular season titles and 18 division championships in the past 50 years and reached the championship round in 2018. The organization has produced more major league alumni than any other league team. This summer's team had players from NCAA Division I runner up University of Florida along with Oklahoma State University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, University of Southern California, and other top-flight collegiate programs.

"What fires me up the most is the challenge in front of us," stated Sheetinger, who has guided GGC to a 170-36 record and three Avista NAIA World Series appearances in his four seasons in Lawrenceville. "Injecting passion and positive energy back into the Chatham organization, our staff and players will bring a competitive and fun culture and environment to Veterans Field. That's what the team's loyal fans deserve.

"We will work tirelessly and be unwavering in our dedication to solidifying the Anglers as the best summer collegiate team in the best summer collegiate league in the country," he said.

Sheetinger actionThe Massachusetts-based organization sought to hire Sheetinger for the summer assignment because of his success in all collegiate ranks, along with long involvement as an adviser, coach and mentor with USA Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Sheetinger has a 256-79 record in seven seasons as a coach at Georgia Gwinnett College and Spalding University (Kentucky). In between, he served as the ABCA's college division liaison.

"It's obvious from his record at Georgia Gwinnett and Spalding that Sheetinger can put together and manage a baseball team," said CAA President Steve West. "His passion to coach in Chatham resonated with us. It's obvious he is genuinely excited and looking forward to interacting with our fans, our organization, our volunteers, and becoming part of the Chatham community."

Chatham General Manager Mike Geylin added, "I received numerous unsolicited recommendations and referrals for Sheetinger as soon as it looked like we would need a new manager for 2024. When we did further research, every comment was positive. His resume, his knowledge of how the Cape League operates, along with his relationships with coaches built through years of work with USA Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association, as well as relationships with pro baseball scouts and advisors – all crucial to recruiting summer ball players – were decisive factors for me."

Two of Sheetinger's GGC teams have amassed 50 or more victories in a season, including the 2021 NAIA national championship squad. The 2023 team had a 50-8 record, won the Continental Athletic Conference championship, and captured the Lawrenceville Bracket Opening Round to qualify for the Avista NAIA World Series.
