The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team began its road trip to Kentucky by dropping a 3-0 match at Campbellsville University on Thursday evening in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The loss ends the Grizzlies' two-match winning streak.
GGC (4-3) nearly struck first in the contest when a shot from junior
Joy Mertzig hit the left goal post. Thirty-nine seconds later Campbellsville grabbed the lead for good when Angeline Kieh scored in the 20th minute.
Then, Sangmin Cha found the back of the net in the 34th minute to give the Tigers (4-1) a 2-0 advantage. The hosts outshot GGC by a 9-3 margin in the first half.
The Grizzlies applied pressure in the second half, taking advantage of the Tigers playing with 10 players after a red penalty card was issued late in the first half. The visitors registered 15 of their 18 shots in the second half, including all eight shots on goal.
However, the team couldn't put a goal on the scoreboard. In the meantime, Campbellsville's Lina Berrah extended with a third goal in the 73rd minute.
Mertzig attempted a match-high five shots, while sophomore
Victoria Watson added four shots for the Grizzlies.

In the span of one minute the Grizzlies went from looking like they were going to score the first goal of the match to trailing on the scoreboard. In the 20th minute, junior
Joy Mertzig missed a shot from close distance off the left goal post. Thirty-nine seconds later Campbellsville found the back of the net off the foot of Angeline Kieh. The Tigers would add a second goal in the 34th minute before playing the final 52 minutes down a player after a red penalty card had been assessed.
