Game Recap: Baseball |

Record-Setting Day

The No. 9-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team established two new program records and tied another offensive mark while outscoring Johnson University (Tennessee) by a 49-0 margin during a doubleheader sweep Saturday at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.

The Grizzlies (26-7) legged out a school record 11 doubles in winning the first game 23-0 before coming back with a record-setting 25 hits while tying another mark with 26 runs in the nightcap shutout victory. They collected 48 hits for the day.

GGC outscored Johnson 63-0 throughout the three-game weekend series. The Grizzlies have recorded five consecutive shutouts – all coming this week.

Individually, junior Gabe Howell went 4-for-7, drove in six runs and scored three runs on the day. Junior Livingston Morris collected five hits and hit his eighth home run of the season in the first contest. Junior Tate Kight was 4-for-4 in the second contest and smashed his first homer of the season.

Freshman Josh Davis drove in five runs, went 3-for-3 and scored three runs while senior Kyle Harvey was 4-for-4 and hit three doubles in the sweep.

On the mound, 10 pitchers combined for the two shutouts, registering 33 strikeouts across the 14 innings.

Freshman Gage Williams had two strikeouts in three scoreless innings in the first-game starting assignment. Junior Kevin Kyle registered seven strikeouts in a three-inning effort during the second game. Kyle improved to 4-0 on the season, while Williams picked up his second win of the 2021 season.

The Grizzlies have won 14 of their last 15 games.

Coach's Corner
"I was very impressed with how mature the guys took to the games this weekend. We handled ourselves very well and I'm happy with how we went about the weekend. You sometimes get caught up in the wins and losses during a season and forget to realize that the players are in continuous development. It was good to see Tate (Kight) get his first home run and produce like he did," said Head Coach Jeremy Sheetinger.
