Tourney Setback

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team ended the 2021 campaign with a 5-0 loss to Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky) in the NAIA Opening Round on Thursday afternoon from Marian University.

The Blue Raiders (13-4) scored third first-half goals, including two within a 49-second span. Larissa Modesto De Souza found the back of the net in the 19th minute before Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza followed with a score in the 20th minute for a 2-0 lead. Larissa Modesto De Souza scored her second goal of the half to give the No. 2-seeded team a 3-0 advantage in the 28th minute.

Lindsey Wilson added second-half goals from Yudaya Nakayenze in the 61st minute and Emma Lindell in the 66th minute. The team outshot the Grizzlies by a 13-9 margin, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.

GGC (11-7-1) was making its fifth straight postseason appearance in the NAIA national tournament. The team qualified for the NAIA Opening Round after winning the inaugural Continental Athletic Conference tournament title.
 
Turning Point
After scoring twice within a 49-second of the first half, Lindsey Wilson added a third goal to take a commanding 3-0 halftime advantage. A goal by Larissa Modesto De Souza in the 19th minute was following by a goal from Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza in the 20th minute. The Blue Raiders followed in the 28th minute with a third goal of the match.
