Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Slim Margin

A goal from a corner kick was the deciding factor in the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team's 1-0 loss to No. 10-ranked Southeastern University (Florida) on Thursday evening at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

Threatening weather conditions in the vicinity of the stadium delayed the start of the match by 40 minutes.

Once play began, GGC (7-5) attempted two shots in the first 12 minutes before Southeastern registered its first shot attempt during the 25th minute. The match's lone goal came one minute later as the Fire's Ramsey Watkins chipped in a header from Jennifer Luna that came after Shara Randez's corner kick – the second within a minute span.

The Grizzlies had a good scoring opportunity in the closing minutes of the first half. Sophomore Victoria Watson got behind the opposing defense for a breakaway along the right side of the pitch. Her shot directed toward the far goal post just sailed wide of the target.

Johansson saveThe Fire (6-3) outshot GGC by a 13-7 margin, including an 8-3 edge during the second half. Watson led the hosts with three shots in the match.

Georgia Gwinnett College sophomore goalkeeper Matilda Johansson made eight saves to keep the match close.

Turning Point

Ramsey Watkins chipped in a header from Jennifer Luna following Shara Randez's corner kick. Later in the half, sophomore Victoria Watson found herself in a breakaway along the right side, but her shot just missed the far goal post.
