End of the Road

No. 1-ranked William Carey University (Mississippi) scored twice in both halves to defeat the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The host Crusaders (13-0) grabbed a 2-0 halftime advantage behind goals from Ana Paula Santos and Veronic Herrera in the 32nd and 42nd minutes, respectively. Paula Santos provided an assist on Herrera's goal.

William Carey added second-half goals in the 50th and 65th minute to cap the strong offensive performance.

GGC (8-6-1) had seven different players register a shot, led by junior Lena Balck with two shot attempts. Three of the team's eight shots were on goal.

The Grizzlies capped their regular season road matches with a 5-4-1 record and Saturday marked the seventh match in 2021 against either a nationally ranked team or opponent receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll.

Balck throw inTop-ranked William Carey found the back of the net twice in the final 13 minutes of the first half to build a 2-0 halftime advantage. Ana Paula Santos scored the initial goal and set up the second score with a pass. The two first-half goals were too much for the Grizzlies to overcome.
