Doubles Sets Positive Tone on Court

The No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team remained undefeated in the spring season with a 4-0 home victory Thursday afternoon against NCAA Division II Emmanuel College (Ga.) at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies (22-0), the defending NAIA national champions, have won 104 straight matches.

The home team got off to a fast start by winning 12 of the 13 games to capture the match's only doubles point. Senior Ayed Zatar and sophomore Federico Bonacia won all six games on the No. 1 court.

The tandem of junior Gregor Hutterer and freshman Daniel Czepielewski clinched the point with a 6-1 victory on the No. 3 court.

Caratini backhand2In singles, GGC earned three straight-set wins to close out the match. Sophomore Valentino Caratini won 12 of 13 games on the No. 3 court before Zatar responded with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.

Bonacia earned the team's fourth point of the match by having a 6-3, 6-0 win at the top of the singles lineup.

"We played very well. I was really proud of our effort, especially in doubles. Our play in doubles set the tone for the rest of the day," said Head Coach Chase Hodges.

Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to host No. 2-ranked Reinhardt University (Ga.) on Tuesday, April 23, at 2 p.m. It will be Senior Day at the GGC Tennis Facility.
