Thomas University (Ga.) scored four runs in the sixth inning and relied on strong pitching to defeat the Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team 4-1 Friday night to begin a three-game weekend series in Thomasville, Ga. – the first road series of the season for the Grizzlies.
Thomas (12-8) carried over its recent strong play this spring, winning 11 of its last 12 games.
Landon Boyette connected on a solo home run to open the big sixth inning for the Night Hawks. A run-scoring double from Brandon Paez and a RBI ground out extended the lead to 3-0.
GGC (14-5), ranked No. 4 in the first regular season NAIA Top 25 poll, got on the scoreboard when senior
Brandon Frazier led off the ninth inning with a home run.
Thomas starting pitcher Chance Carter had seven shutout innings to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Turning Point
Thomas broke a scoreless game during the middle innings to pick up the victory. A solo home run from Landon Boyette opened the scoring. The Night Hawks picked up a run-scoring double and a ground out to bring home two more runs. A wild pitch gave the home team a 4-0 lead.
