Game Recap: Softball |

A Winding Road

Monday's NAIA Top-10 softball matchup went in favor of the home team as No. 8-ranked University of Mobile swept a doubleheader from No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett College, winning the first game 5-4 in nine innings and then 6-0 in the second contest.

Both teams had opportunities to score during extra innings of the first game. GGC (12-4) grabbed a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Holly Janco. However, Mobile (8-2) executed a squeeze bunt to score the tying run in the bottom half of the frame.

The Grizzlies were unable to push across a run in the top of the ninth, despite advancing a runner to third base with one out. Then, Mobile managed to get the timely hit when Allison Vincent's sacrifice fly gave the Rams the 5-4 victory.

Mobile used a four-run second inning to build an early 5-0 advantage in the second game.

Coach's Corner
"We had a tough weekend facing some of top teams on the road. We learned a lot. We have a great team with a lot of people who contribute in different ways. We will get back to work and focus on moving forward as a group. Tori Robinson continues to hit well and Taylor Hansis had some very strong innings on the mound," said Head Coach Kat Ihlenburg.

Robinson defenseTurning Point
The Grizzlies were looking to take the lead in the top of the ninth inning with sophomore pinch runner Ashlyn Brewster at third base and one out. However, a fly out and ground out ended the threat. Meanwhile, Mobile needed just one run to pull out the victory and the hosts proceeded to load the bases with one out. Allison Vincent hit a sacrifice fly deep enough that allowed Amberly Montgomery to score the game-winning run.
