Hitting Their Stride

The No. 3-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team collected its second straight weekend series sweep of the 2019 season with a pair of victories Saturday against No. 18 Webber International University (Fla.) at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.

GGC used a six-run third inning to capture the day's opener 11-7 before tallying seven runs over the first two innings to win the nightcap 11-1.

Sophomore Cam Coursey went 6-for-8 and scored five runs between the two games, while senior Brody Wofford drove in four runs in the second game. Senior Brenton Burgess hit a home run in each contest and now leads the team with three homers this spring.

Junior starting pitcher Hunter Dollander struck out eight batters and allowed one run over six innings in the nightcap to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. Senior Jonathan McKinney won the opener while freshman Alec Kliphouse tossed 3.1 innings in relief to register the save.

GGC (7-3) collected 28 hits and scored 22 runs in Saturday's doubleheader sweep and outscored the Florida team 32-11 in the series.

Coach's Corner
"We had two strong wins against a really good opponent. We pitched well, hit well and came together after a bad game on Wednesday (8-3 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan). It was a great weekend all the way around for us," said Head Coach Brad Stromdahl.

Turning Point
The Grizzlies used a six-run third inning to grab momentum of the day's opening game. Trailing 3-0 after the first two innings, the team sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning to grab a lead that it would never relinquish. Sophomore Nick Barnes hit a two-run single to break a 3-3 tie in the frame. Senior Onassis Matos capped the big inning with a RBI double.
