The Grizzlies outscored the opposition 33-to-2 in the Lawrenceville Bracket to win the NAIA Opening Round
Box Score

The Georgia Gwinnett College baseball program put an exclamation point at the end of the NAIA Opening Round's Lawrenceville Bracket with a convincing 13-0 victory against Point University (Ga.) Wednesday evening at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.

The Grizzlies have qualified for the Avista NAIA World Series for the second time in program history. The tournament will be May 25 through June 1 in Lewiston, Idaho.

GGC (48-10 and ranked No. 2 nationally) outscored its three opponents in the Lawrenceville Bracket by a dominating 33-to-2 margin and had three complete-game pitching performances.

The tournament hosts and No. 1 seed used a big seven-run second inning to take control of the championship game. Junior Jordan Tylski opened the scoring with a two-run double down the right field line. A sacrifice bunt from freshman Walter Coursey added another run. Back-to-back extra-base hits from senior Marcus McCorkle and junior Alex Garlandextended GGC's lead to 5-0. Junior Onassis Matos capped the scoring with a two-run double.

The team added a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings before scoring four times in the eighth inning.

Junior pitcher Hunter Peck allowed just three hits across nine innings and improved to 11-0 on the season. The left hander faced two batters over the minimum (27 batters) in the shutout pitching performance.

Offensively, the top of the batting order got the job done for Georgia Gwinnett College. Ballard went 3-for-5, with two runs scored, as the leadoff batter, while Coursey went 4-for-5, and McCorkle and Garland had two hits apiece from the 2-3-4 spots in the team's batting order.

Matos and junior Brandon Frazier also had collected multiple-hit performances in the 19-hit offensive attack.

GGC also won the NAIA Opening Round in 2014 to qualify for the NAIA World Series.
