Box Score The No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team took full advantage of 17 hits to score a decisive 18-8 victory over No. 10-ranked Bryan College (Tenn.) Tuesday evening at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
The victory allowed the Grizzlies (40-8) to reach the 40-win plateau for the fifth time in the program's six seasons.
GGC wasted little time in breaking out the bats, scoring four runs in the first inning and enjoyed a 5-0 lead after the second frame. Then, the hosts added six runs in the seventh and four more runs in the eighth inning to push the lead to the eventual 10-run margin.
Senior Chris Jones went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Freshman Walter Coursey also had a three-hit performance and scored three runs. Seniors Kade Carrigan and Tony Salvaggio joined junior Jordan Tylski in having multiple-hit efforts.
The Grizzlies swept the home-and-home season series from Bryan (36-12), winning 8-3 in Tennessee on March 13.
Turning Point
After Bryan scored in the top of the fourth inning to get within 5-1, Georgia Gwinnett College regained the momentum in the bottom half of the frame. Back-to-back singles from senior Chris Jones and freshman Walter Coursey opened the inning. Coursey's base hit scored Jones from second base. A sacrifice fly from freshman Nick Barnes brought home Coursey to give the hosts a 7-1 lead. Bryan would only get within four runs the rest of the way.
