Box Score The No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team came out on top of the longest game in program history, defeating Lindenwood University-Belleville 10-9 after a walk-off single from junior Brandon Frazier in the 14th inning Friday night at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
GGC (32-8) rallied from a 9-8 deficit by scoring the tying run on a RBI single from freshman Walter Coursey in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Senior relief pitcher Cole Uvila struck out nine batters across five scoreless innings to pick up the victory. He struck out the side in the 12th inning after the Lynx put the potential go-ahead run at third base with no outs.
The 14th inning rally started with one out when senior Marcus McCorkle drew a walk. He would later steal second and third bases to put the game-winning run just 90 feet away. That's when Frazier delivered a single to the left-center gap against the Lynx's drawn-in infield and outfield defensive alignment.
The 14 innings is the longest game in GGC baseball history. The previous longest game was a 12-inning contest at West Virginia Tech on April 24, 2015.
Coursey collected three of the team's 10 hits in the game. Frazier went 2-for-4 in the victory.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game set with a doubleheader Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. on Military Appreciation Day. A special flyover of a T-38 supersonic jet from Whiteman Air Force Base (Mo.) in pregame festivities at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
Military personnel with identification and their guests will receive free admission to the Grizzlies' baseball and softball games Saturday. Admission for other patrons will be $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children more than five years of age. Children under five years old receive free admission. All GGC students, faculty and staff members also get in free, by showing a valid college identification card.
Turning Point
Senior Marcus McCorkle took advantage of his fourth walk of the night to steal second and third bases while junior Brandon Frazier was in the batter's box. That set up the scene for Frazier to win the game with one out and McCorkle at third base. He lined a single to the left-center gap to score the winning run, ending a game that lasted over four hours.
