Box Score A Top-10 midweek matchup between Georgia Gwinnett College and Lewis-Clark State College lived up its national billing with the No. 6-ranked Warriors picking up a 10-9 victory over the No. 2 Grizzlies in 10 innings Tuesday evening. It was the opener of a four-game series.
GGC (17-3) had enjoyed a 9-8 lead in the seventh inning, thanks to a four-run frame assisted by four Lewis-Clark State errors. A sacrifice fly from junior Brandon Frazier gave the visitors the lead in the big inning.
A solo home run by the Warriors' Raymond Pedrina – his second of the game – tied the game in the eighth inning. Then, the hosts got a walk-off sacrifice fly by Cory Voss to bring home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Junior Alex Garland was a bright spot for Georgia Gwinnett College as he connected on a two-run home run in the first inning. Junior C.J. Ballard led the team's 11-hit offensive attack with three base hits, while Frazier had a two-run double in the fourth inning.
Lewis-Clark State is the three-time defending NAIA national champion and is 12-3 on the season. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Wednesday, March 7, at 4 p.m.
Turning Point
Trailing by one run in the eighth inning, Lewis-Clark State's Raymond Pedrina knotted the game with a solo home run – his second home run of the game – in the bottom of the frame. The Warriors would go on to win the game in the 10th inning on a walk-off sacrifice fly.
