Box Score Top-ranked Faulkner University scored four runs in the eighth inning to earn a 6-1 victory against the No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team Friday night in the opening game of this weekend's key series.
GGC (25-6) scored its lone run in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead, when freshman Walter Coursey crossed the plate after a passed ball. He had legged out a triple to get into scoring position. Coursey connected on two of the Grizzlies' nine hits in the game.
Faulkner (32-2) tied the game on a two-out single in the fourth inning. Later, the Eagles grabbed a 2-1 lead by scoring an unearned run on a two-out single.
The hosts added four insurance runs in the eighth inning. The big blow was a three-run home run.
Turning Point
Faulkner took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning on a two-out base hit. The runner got into scoring position after a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.
