Box Score The Georgia Gwinnett College baseball program continued its perfection in extra-inning games by pushing across a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Indiana Institute of Technology 4-3 Thursday night at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
GGC has won all 12 of its extra-inning games in the program's six seasons. The latest triumph improved the No. 12-ranked Grizzlies to 6-1 this spring and 4-0 in home games.
Late-inning heroics were needed for the most recent victory, with a hit to left field by junior Brandon Frazier, with two outs, brought home senior Chris Jones with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
A frame earlier, a sacrifice fly by senior Kade Carrigan pushed the game into extra innings at 3-3.
Freshman Michael Cherwenka kept the visiting Warriors off the scoreboard in the top of the 10th inning to set up the 10th inning heroics.
That's when senior Chris Jones singled to right field and advanced into scoring position on a walk to senior Marcus McCorkle. A fly out moved Jones to third base. Indiana Tech relief pitcher Seth Sorensen got a strikeout for the second out of the inning. However, Frazier's fly ball to left field fell safely for the game-winning tally.
Junior Gregory Loukinen recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one hit in five scoreless middle innings in relief. Cherwenka improved to 2-0 on the season.
Turning Point
With the bases loaded and two outs in the 10th inning, junior Brandon Frazier lifted a fly ball to shallow left field. Indiana Tech was unable to make the catch for an error as senior Chris Jones touched home plate for the game-winning run. Jones led off the pivotal frame with a single to right field.
