Baseball Remains Undefeated at Home, Completes Lindsey Wilson Series Sweep

Box Score

The No. 12-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team recorded its third series sweep of the 2018 season, defeating Lindsey Wilson College 5-1 Sunday afternoon to complete the three-game weekend series at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.

GGC (11-1) has won all nine of its home games this spring.

The hosts got a strong pitching performance from junior left hander Hunter Peck, who scattered four hits over seven innings – marking the longest outing of the season for one of the Grizzlies' starting pitchers.

Georgia Gwinnett College used a four-run fifth inning to grab the game's lead for good. An infield single by freshman Cord Johnson broke the 1-1 contest. Junior Alex Garland and senior Kade Carrigan added RBI singles later in the frame.

Sophomore relief pitcher Hunter Caudelle and stablemate senior Stone Kelly retired all three batters they faced in the eighth and ninth innings respectively. The three GGC pitchers held Lindsey Wilson to four hits Sunday.

Turning Point

With the game tied at 1-1, the Grizzlies manufactured the eventual game-winning run in the fifth inning without the ball leaving the infield. Junior Jordan Tylski singled to open the pivotal fifth inning. He advanced into scoring position after a bobble in the outfield on the play. Freshman Cord Johnson followed by hitting a slow ground ball down the third base line for an infield single. However, Tylski hustled during the play and headed home after the throw by the fielder who was in front of him. The ball got away from the first baseman which easily allowed Tylski to scamper to cross home plate and Johnson getting to second base. GGC added three more runs later in the game.
