Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Road Rally

Second-half adjustments produced three second-half goals and a comeback victory for the No. 12-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team, 3-2 at No. 17 University of Mobile on Saturday night in Mobile, Ala.

The Grizzlies (13-3) have won three straight matches and seven of their last eight matches, while posting three victories against NAIA ranked opponents. The team also has a 6-2 record in road matches this season.

Senior Stina Andersson scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute, breaking a 2-2 deadlock – capping an exciting second-half comeback for the Grizzlies.

Freshmen Victoria Bischof began the effort with a goal in the 65th minute. Ten minutes later, classmate Joy Mertzig squared the match, 2-2, with an unassisted goal.

That setup the dramatic ending in which senior Lauren Moss delivered a pass to Andersson, who followed by putting the ball into the net for her fifth goal of the season.

GGC (13-3) outshot Mobile 12-to-9, including a 9-to-3 margin in the second half.

"We made some adjustments heading into the second half. The girls executed that adjusted game plan to perfection. To have the emotional energy, when down 2-0, to come back is a credit to the team. This was another quality win and our second come-from-behind win over a quality team. It shows that we can do it again," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Turning Point
For the second straight match against a ranked opponent, the Grizzlies corrected their play with a second-half adjustment. After surrendering two goals in the first 18 minutes, GGC turned the tables with nine of their 12 shots in the second 45-minute period. Freshmen Victoria Bischof and Joy Mertzig scored goals in the 65th and 75th minutes, respectively. Then, the team continued to carry the positive momentum as senior Stina Andersson found the back of the net in the 83rd minute.
