Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Building Momentum

Junior Oscar Sommerkamp scored with two minutes remaining in the first overtime period as the Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer team defeated No. 12-ranked Reinhardt University 2-1 on Saturday evening in Waleska, Ga.

Playing in in their second overtime match of the season, the Grizzlies (6-5-1) got the game-winning goal when Sommerkamp used his head to deflect a pass from sophomore Toni Tiente past the Reinhardt goalkeeper.

GGC took a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute on a goal from junior Malik Thornell. However, Reinhardt (10-2-2) tied the match, 1-1, in the 79th minute on a goal from Edgardo Obregon.

That set up the dramatic overtime finish.

GGC attempted 13 shots and had three corner kicks in the match.

Building momentum for postseason play, the Grizzlies have now won back-to-back matches for the first time this season and their record is above the .500 mark for the first time since early September, when they had a 3-2-1 record.

Reinhardt POGCoach's Corner
"That was probably the best game we have played since Lindsey Wilson (a 4-3 victory on Sept. 8). The guys are turning the corner and we had a good week of training. We felt like we were going to put together a good performance," said Head Coach Steve DeCou.

Turning Point
The Grizzlies made their first shot of the extra time count when junior Oscar Sommerkamp found the back of the net on a header in the 98th minute. Junior Toni Tiente attempted a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. The initial shot was deflected past a Reinhardt defender to get to Sommerkamp.
