Box Score Nationally ranked Martin Methodist College scored once in each half in earning a 2-0 victory against the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team in a road match Wednesday evening.
The No. 14-ranked Redhawks got on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute when Millene Cabral Vieira found the back of the net.
In the second half, GGC made a hard attempt in tying the match with eight of its 12 shots coming in the period. One of the golden scoring chances for the Grizzlies came in the 83rd minute when junior Nicole Rodriguez drilled a shot off the crossbar. Earlier, a header from close in range by senior Dominique Fletcher was saved by the goalkeeper.
Martin Methodist added an insurance goal in the 87th minute to secure the victory.
"We were unlucky not to get the equalizer in the second half. We had more corners (4-2) and several chances," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano. "We were right there against the 14th best team in the country. It shows you that we are not that far off."

In an attempt to square the match, GGC junior Nicole Rodriguez hit the crossbar in the 83rd minute. Four minutes later, Martin Methodist found the back of the net for an insurance goal.
