Box Score Visiting SCAD Savannah scored the game-winning tally with nine seconds remaining in the second overtime period to defeat the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team 1-0 in the 2017 season opener on Thursday evening from the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
SCAD Savannah's Mikaela Heyboer found the back of the net to give the visitors the victory.
GGC held a 9-1 shot advantage in the first half and finished the match with a 19-14 edge. The Grizzlies had numerous scoring chances in the match, including the two extra 10-minute playing sessions. However, SCAD Savannah's goalkeeper Lauren Kittle was up to the challenge including in the final minute of the first overtime period. Junior Ana Gonzalez had a breakaway scoring opportunity before Kittle got a piece of the shot to send it wide.
GGC had attempted five shots in the second overtime period, while the Bees' lone shot attempt proved to be the game-winning goal.
Turning Point
The Grizzlies attempted six shots in the two overtime periods, including the first five shots in the second overtime period. However, Lauren Kittle kept GGC off the scoreboard. On the Bees' first shot of the second overtime session Mikaela Heyboer drilled a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.
