On Saturday, the 14th-ranked Georgia Gwinnett baseball team dropped its second contest in-a-row as the Grizzlies were defeated by NCAA Division II foe Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) 7-3.
With the loss, Auburn Montgomery (23-22) wins the season series against the Grizzlies, taking three out of its four meetings with GGC.
"This weekend was a tough two days of baseball for us," said GGC head coach Brad Stromdahl. "All we can do now is use this last week of the regular season to prepare us for the A.I.I. tournament and postseason play."
Georgia Gwinnett (32-18) held a brief 1-0 lead over the Warhawks in the top of the third as second baseman Deion Sellers sent a solo home run over the left-center fence.
Auburn Montgomery tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth when Donovan Chandler pushed an RBI-single to left field, scoring Brandon Davis from third.
In the sixth, Trevor Flynn gave the Warhawks their first lead of the day at 2-1, driving an RBI-single up the middle.
AUM held its lead for the rest of the contest, building a 7-1 gap heading into the eighth inning.
Georgia Gwinnett chipped away at AUM's six-run lead in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs on a dropped fly ball to left that was hit by designated hitter Brady Shoppe.
The Warhawks recovered from the eighth inning error and held strong for the remainder of the contest, handing the Grizzlies their second straight loss in the 7-3 result.
Hank Scott (6-4) picked up the win for Auburn Montgomery while GGC's Trevor Bradley (5-4) suffered the loss. Bradley surrendered two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out seven Warhawks in the contest.
Due to impending inclement weather in the Gwinnett area on Sunday, Georgia Gwinnett's Senior Day festivities and contest against Middle Georgia State has been canceled. The Grizzlies will return to action on Wednesday, April 26 when GGC travels to Athens, Tenn., to face No. 6 Tennessee Wesleyan in a nine-inning contest.
