Eighth-Ranked Grizzlies Defeat Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) in 10-0 Shutout Victory

The eighth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett baseball team bounced back from its 8-4 loss to Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) on Friday night to defeat the Warhawks in a 10-0 shutout on Saturday, picking up its 31st win of the 2017 season.

With Saturday's win, the Grizzlies (31-16) evened the season series against Auburn Montgomery (20-21) and are now 1-2 all-time against the Warhawks.

"It's great to see our guys bounce back after last night's loss," said GGC head coach Brad Stromdahl.  "Tyler [Souris] did a superb job for us on the mound, and the rest of the team backed him up with timely hitting and sound defense.  We are just a few weeks away from the conference tournament, and we will continue to focus on getting better each day."

Senior Tyler Souris (6-1) had a career day for the Grizzlies as the Bradenton, Fla., native threw a complete-game shutout against the Warhawks, scattering three hits in seven innings of work while striking out four.  Notably, Souris faced just 22 batters in the contest, finishing just one batter away from facing the minimum.

At the plate, right fielder Jean Figueroa led the Grizzlies with a 3-for-5 performance, accounting for four of GGC's 10 runs in the contest with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Shortstop Marcus McCorkle put the Grizzlies on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI-single to right, scoring Figueroa.

An inning later, Figueroa made it 3-0 with a two-run single to right-center field.  On the next pitch to designated hitter Kyler Timmerman, the Grizzlies moved to a 5-0 advantage with a two-run double by the Evans, Ga., native.  Timmerman went 1-for-2 in the contest, scoring once while also reaching base on two walks.  Later in the second, catcher Jean Paul Rodriguez pushed the GGC gap to 6-0 with an RBI-single up the middle.

In the third, second baseman Deion Sellers lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center, scoring third baseman Trevor Bradley from third.  Previously, Bradley reached with a triple to right-center field.

First baseman Brady Hamilton joined the scoring barrage in the bottom of the fourth, lifting his fifth home run of the season over the left field fence for the 8-0 GGC lead.  Later in the inning, pinch-hitter Angel Soto walked with the bases loaded to make it 9-0 while a wild pitch by AUM reliever Wade Bannister cemented the Grizzlies' 10-0 run-rule victory as center fielder Chris Jones crossed the plate for GGC's 10th and final run of the contest.

Souris received his sixth win of the season in the victory while AUM's Garrett Deloney (4-3) suffered his third loss of the year.

The same two teams will meet again next weekend when the Grizzlies travel to Montgomery, Ala., on April 21 and 22 to face the Warhawks at 5:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.  Both games will take place at the AUM Baseball Complex (6692 AUM Drive, Montgomery, Ala. 36117).
