The No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett baseball team suffered its second loss in-a-row on Friday evening at the hands of No. 8 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) as the Grizzlies were defeated in the 3-0 shutout.
In the contest, senior pitcher Nikolay Uherek tied the GGC single-game strikeouts record, which he originally claimed against Northwestern Ohio on March 4, striking out 13 Warriors in the contest.
"Nikolay [Uherek] had another strong outing tonight and continues to improve," said GGC head coach Brad Stromdahl. "Our offense simply struggled to get hits tonight against a well-coached LC State squad. Tonight we struggled, but tomorrow brings another opportunity to learn, grow, and progress."
The Warriors (10-5) took the 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with an RBI-double down the left field line by third baseman Seaver Whalen. Four innings later, a passed ball with the bases loaded scored LC State's second run of the game, giving the Warriors the 2-0 advantage.
The Grizzlies (17-7) managed their first hit of five hits in the contest in the fourth inning with a single to right by second baseman Marcus McCorkle.
LC State scored its final run of the contest on a wild pitch to the backstop, allowing the third and final run of the contest to cross the plate.
With the win, Lewis-Clark now owns the all-time series against the Grizzlies 2-0, sweeping the season series in Lawrenceville.
Lewis-Clark State's starter Connor Brogdon picked up his second win of 2017, pitching eight innings of scoreless work. The right-hander allowed just five hits in the contest, striking out 14 of the Grizzlies he faced. Uherek suffered the loss, surrendering three runs, one earned, on eight hits.
Next up the Grizzlies will host Madonna on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
