Grizzlies Blank Life (Ga.) 7-0 for Second Victory of Season

Box Score

The Georgia Gwinnett women's soccer team claimed a 7-0 shutout victory over Life University (Ga.) on Wednesday night to pick up its second win in-a-row.

Six different Grizzlies netted goals against Life (0-2) while three others collected assists.

"We are pleased to get a positive result in our third game in less than six days," stated GGC head coach Chris Kouns.  "Monday's contest took a real toll on our legs, and it was encouraging to see us dig in and find a way to work to improve in tonight's match."

The Grizzlies (2-1) took the 2-0 advantage into the intermission as Tiffany Rodriguez (21st minute) and Nikki LeFevre (34th minute) both netted goals in the opening half of play.

Kouns continued, "From the kickoff, we were very slow and reactive in our play.  It was encouraging to find a way to score when we did not come out of the gate as strong as we had planned.  We challenged our squad to come out hard in the second half and work to be the best version of ourselves, not just win.  As you saw for the first seven minutes of the second half, we did just that.  Our play will continue to improve in time."

GGC opened the second half with two goals in the first six minutes of play.  First, sophomore Ana Gonzalez scored her third goal of the season off a through touch by Amy Morland.  Just 90 seconds later, Morland would connect with Nicole Rodriguez, who scored her first of two goals of the evening, giving the Grizzlies the 4-0 advantage.

In the 62nd minute, freshman Samantha Thornton scored her first collegiate goal as a Grizzly to push GGC's gap to 5-0.  Morland would reach the stats sheet once again in the 63rd minute, scoring her first goal of the 2016 season.

The scoring rout concluded in the 68th minute when Nicole Rodriguez broke through Life's backline and netted GGC's seventh and final goal of the evening.

Goalkeeper Sophie Hoare collected her first collegiate shutout in goal for the Grizzlies, tallying two saves.

The Grizzlies are back in action on August 31 when they host Brewton-Parker (Ga.) in the two squads' first-ever meeting.  First touch is set for 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for next Wednesday's match are $5 for adults, $3 for youth, seniors, and military, and free for children under five.  All members of the GGC community receive free admission with their Claw Card.  Season ticket packages are also on sale for all regular season contests.  For more information on ticketing, click here.
