The No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett baseball team captured its 11th series sweep of the season on Saturday, defeating Talladega 3-1 and 8-1.
The Grizzlies (42-2) used an RBI-double by first baseman Zac Rinehart and two RBI-singles by third baseman Angel Soto to defeat the Tornadoes in game one and responded with an offensive assault in the night cap to pull out the 8-1 victory, clinching the series sweep.
In the night cap, Talladega took its lone lead of the contest, 1-0, in the first inning using a double steal play. Jesus Zapata led the inning off with a double, moved to third on a single by Juan Marmol, and then scored on the double steal.
Two innings later, the Grizzlies tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI-single by second baseman Marcus McCorkle. In the top of the fourth, Georgia Gwinnett took a 3-1 lead on a wild throw by the Talladega catcher and an RBI-single by Jabari Gayle.
Gayle would push the GGC advantage to 4-1 two innings later with his second RBI-single of the contest. The Grizzlies plated two more insurance runs in the inning off a two-run double by right fielder Trey Haygood to increase their gap to 6-1.
In the seventh, Georgia Gwinnett plated its final two runs of the contest on Hamilton's seventh home run of the 2016 season. The two-run blast sailed over the left-center field fence, scoring shortstop William Paschal.
Trevor Bradley picked up his first win of the season on the mound for the Grizzlies, surrendering just one run on six hits in four innings of work. Talladega's Felix Castillo was credited with the loss as he gave up three runs on five hits in five innings of work.
Georgia Gwinnett is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Montgomery, Ala., to face No. 4 Faulkner. In their last meeting, the Grizzlies beat the then-ranked No. 1 Eagles 3-1 for their 30th win of the season. The Grizzlies will return to the Grizzly Baseball Complex on Wednesday as they host No. 6 Auburn-Montgomery in a nine-inning contest.
