No. 8 GGC Sweeps BPC, Improves to 13-0

Georgia Gwinnett's eighth-ranked baseball team continued its historic start into the 2016 season this afternoon on the road where it picked up its fourth consecutive series sweep, defeating Brewton-Parker (Ga.) 11-0 and 12-9 in doubleheader action.

The Grizzlies (13-0) continue to set new records in consecutive wins as they are now off to the best start in the program's four-year history.

"Today was a great opportunity to secure our fourth series victory of the season," stated GGC head coach Brad Stromdahl.  "Our guys are progressing each time out and that's the most important part of these victories.  We will continue to fine tune pieces of our approach here and there and will work between now and Tuesday to prepare for our next game against Reinhardt."

Left fielder Trey Haygood had a career game for the Grizzlies in game one as he went 4-for-5 from the plate.  The speedster connected for two doubles, a triple, and a single in the first game against BPC.  Haygood plated a run and scored three times in the winning effort.  Left-hander Will Solomon went five innings on the mound for the Grizzlies, surrendering just two hits in the contest en route to his third victory of the season.

Game two with the Barons was a slugfest that saw the Grizzlies come out on top, 12-9.  Haygood once again had a career performance, repeating his 4-for-5 effort in game two.  This time, he scored twice and stole a base in the win.  During the fifth inning, first baseman Zac Rinehart lifted his second home run of the season over the right-field fence, plating three Grizzly runs.

Up next for Georgia Gwinnett is a single-game showdown with in-state rival Reinhardt (Ga.).  The two will square off Tuesday in Waleska, Ga., at 3:00 p.m.

Georgia Gwinnett returns to the Grizzly Baseball Complex Friday, Feb. 26 as it hosts Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) in doubleheader action.  First pitch from Lawrenceville is slated for 1:00 p.m.
