Baseball Finishes Hiwassee Sweep Saturday

The Georgia Gwinnett baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Hiwassee College on Saturday with a 10-7 victory in Madisonville, Tenn.

William Paschal had four hits, while John Fidanza and Phillip Bates each tallied three.

The Grizzlies used a three-run first inning to jump in front, reaching 29-4 on the season. The Tigers dropped to 12-17-1. GGC took the first two games of the series in Lawrenceville on Friday.

Fidanza belted his first home run of the year, one of four extra-base hits for the Grizzlies. Bates and Christian Van Camp each scored twice.

Starter Drew Riley (3-0) struck out six batters on the mound for GGC over 4.2 innings.

Georgia Gwinnett remained unbeaten on the road this year, and began a stretch of six road games in seven contests with Saturday’s win.

The Grizzlies visit Truett-McConnell on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start, looking for their 30th victory of the season.
