Senior Amanda Dale tallied her team-leading third goal of the season in the 102nd minute to give the Georgia Gwinnett women’s soccer team a 1-0 double-overtime win over Thomas University Friday evening at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
It was the second consecutive double-overtime affair for the Grizzlies, who improved to 4-1-1 on the season. GGC is 3-0 so far this year in Lawrenceville.
The Grizzly defense held the Night Hawks (1-3) without a shot on goal as Mo Gutierrez and Alex Hays teamed up in goal for GGC’s second shutout win of the year.
“Today we got to the final third all day and that was really the difference because we kept coming and coming and coming,” said Grizzlies head coach Domenic Martelli.
Nikki LeFevre picked up her first assist of the year on the deciding tally as the Grizzlies made their 15th shot of the night count.
“Amanda had a great game and she went through everyone she needed to to get that goal," added Martelli.
Dale and Bethany Johnson led the Grizzlies with a game-high four shots apiece.
Night Hawks goalkeeper Deanna Rivet made four saves in the game, including one on a shot in close by Mackenzie Bailey just minutes before overtime that looked to be a game-winner.
The Grizzlies established the pace of play early and produced several chances throughout the game.
Thomas had defeated eighth-ranked Mobile in its previous outing before traveling to Lawrenceville.
The Grizzlies continue their homestand by hosting Auburn Montgomery Sunday at 1 p.m. in Lawrenceville.
