Pat Long and Sloan Strickland belted RBI doubles as the Georgia Gwinnett baseball team climbed out of an early four-run hole, but it wasn’t enough to top Thomas University in a 5-4 GGC defeat in Thomasville Friday evening.
The Grizzlies (24-15) scored twice in the third inning and twice more in the sixth to bounce back from a 4-0 deficit but GGC never drew even on the night.
Strickland and Robbie Payne each had two hits while starter Frank Warren lasted seven innings on the mound. Joe Albertson added a hitless inning of relief.
Brandon Singer’s two-out RBI triple for the Night Hawks (18-18) in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as GGC did not produce a hit over the final three innings.
Friday marked GGC’s seventh one-run defeat this year.
The teams’ three-game series continues Saturday at 4 p.m. in Thomasville.
