The Georgia Gwinnett baseball team dropped its second game in as many days to fourth-ranked Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., this time by an 8-1 score Tuesday afternoon.

The Grizzlies (27-24) were held to just two hits over seven innings by Flames starter Mike Guinane before tallying a ninth-inning score.

Lee, which boasts the nation’s top pitching staff, won its 40th game to improve to 40-10 and 28-5 at Olympic Field.

Antonio Allen had two hits for the second straight game to lead the Grizzlies.

Phillip Bates had one of GGC’s six hits and scored the team’s lone run on a sacrifice fly from Sloan Strickland.

Starter Drew Riley and Joe Albertson combined for eight strikeouts on the mound.

The Flames posted two scores in four different innings to build an 8-0 lead through the sixth.

Lee, which spent much of the season atop the NAIA poll, was ranked fourth in Tuesday’s edition.

Allen now has a .320 batting average this season and a .450 on-base percentage.

The Grizzlies have just two road games remaining on the season, coming in a doubleheader Wednesday at Young Harris College. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The team then returns to Lawrenceville for the season’s final series, Friday and Saturday, against Loyola New Orleans.
