GGC Falls at North Georgia in Final Innings

Sloan Strickland homered and doubled, driving in four runs, but the Georgia Gwinnett baseball team dropped another one-run decision Wednesday night at North Georgia in Dahlonega, 9-8.

The Grizzlies (25-18) have dropped eight games by a single run this year. GGC scored three times in the first two innings but the NCAA Saints broke an 8-8 tie with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Georgia Gwinnett got three hits, including two doubles, and a pair of runs from Pat Long while Kyle Norton chipped in two hits.

Sheldon Connor and Tyler Carpenter combined for six strikeouts on the mound as the Grizzlies completed a five-game road trip.

The Saints built an 8-5 lead through five innings, but GGC rallied with two in the seventh and the tying run in the eighth.

Phillip Bates drew three walks from the leadoff spot. The Grizzlies capitalized on three Saints errors.

Georgia Gwinnett returns home for a doubleheader Saturday against Emory that begins at 2 p.m. at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
